Dear
John,
After three decades of dedicated service as a teacher in Connecticut’s New Britain School District, Marisol Arroyo-Castro is being threatened with termination for having a small crucifix near her desk.
For the past 10 years, Marisol has displayed her crucifix in her personal space. As a devout Catholic, the crucifix reminds her to pray and provides comfort throughout the day as she faithfully teaches her students.
Despite our victory at the Supreme Court for Coach Kennedy and expressions of faith in the workplace, the school district has decided to force Marisol to choose between her job and her faith.
Watch Marisol share about the religious discrimination she has faced since they demanded she remove the cross from her classroom.

When she couldn’t comply with the vice principal’s demands, Marisol was suspended without pay for two days, then placed on administrative leave and recently demoted to a non-teaching position, all while facing the threat of termination.
It’s hard to imagine why other teachers are allowed to display things like Baby Yoda figures, Patriots football pennants and even a photograph of the Virgin Mary...
Yet Marisol’s crucifix is unacceptable?
The truth is that no teacher should be forced to purge their workspace of anything religious.
It doesn’t matter if the principal doesn’t like it. It doesn’t matter if the superintendent doesn’t like it. It doesn’t even matter if the governor of Connecticut doesn’t like it.
Bottom line – Marisol has the constitutional right to display her crucifix.
It’s time to put a stop to this district’s unconstitutional behavior.
That’s why we’ve filed a lawsuit in federal court along with a complaint to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).
And we won’t stop fighting for Marisol until the New Britain School District:
- stops its mistreatment of Marisol
- stops discriminating against religious employees
- allows all of its teachers and staff to engage in personal expressions of faith
Will you fight with Marisol for the right to express her faith?
We can’t allow religious discrimination in the workplace to continue.
Your best gift today will give our expert attorneys the resources they need to fight back against this out-of-control school district.
