On March 25, as 30-year-old Tufts University Ph.D. student Rumeysa Ozturk left her home to meet friends and eat after a 13-hour Ramadan fast, she was handcuffed by masked, plain-clothed federal agents and forced into an unmarked SUV.
The abduction took place in broad daylight on a public street. Without warning, due process, or even the ability to contact a lawyer, Ozturka was taken to an undisclosed location. (Fortunately, nearby cameras captured it on video, or it's possible no one would've known it happened.)
It appears Ozturk was targeted because she co-authored an opinion editorial in the student newspaper a year ago calling on the university to divest from companies with ties to Israel because of the war in Gaza.
The Trump administration has revoked Ozturk’s visa, and she remains in custody on the path to deportation.
