Dear Friend,

Since I announced my candidacy for Mayor of New York City on March 1, I have been honored to receive the endorsements of labor unions, community leaders, pastors, and elected officials. I have worked alongside these committed women and men throughout my career—as HUD Secretary, Attorney General, and Governor. I value their expertise, advice, and support and am grateful to have them at my side.

Assembly Member Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn, Chair of the Brooklyn Democratic Party, recently honored me with her endorsement and shared her reasoning in a beautifully-written and personal op-ed in the Brooklyn Paper. With her permission, I am sharing a bit of her essay below:

Op-ed | Why Andrew Cuomo is the right leader for a better NYC

As Governor, Cuomo delivered real results and led with compassion. His policies directly addressed Black women’s issues with sensitivity and action. Cuomo has proven he can take on the toughest fights and win. He has shown up for Black women—not just during elections, but when it truly matters. This election is critical for our future, and that’s why I’ve proudly joined the growing ranks endorsing Cuomo. 

We must now use our collective power at the polls to ensure the voices of Black women, seniors, and mothers are heard and prioritized in shaping our city.  Cuomo will fight for us—and together, as the backbone of the Democratic Party, we’ll move New York forward.

I can’t begin to tell you how much the Chairwoman’s words and support mean to me. She is a trail blazer, a barrier breaker, and a true partner in government. I am looking forward to continuing to work with her, and with all of you, for the benefit of our great city for years to come
