John — I have an update for you:

I just introduced my first bill in the U.S. Senate — a bipartisan piece of legislation to protect communities impacted by natural disasters.

The Facilitating Increased Resilience, Environmental Weatherization and Lowered Liability Act — or FIREWALL for short — will provide tax credits to families seeking to make their homes resilient to natural disasters in their communities.

John, we are just starting to rebuild from the disastrous fires in Southern California earlier this year.

Ever since the first fires started in the area, my office and I have been working to do everything we can to support the communities — and to make sure disasters like this are mitigated to the furthest extent possible in the future.

Alongside Republican Senator Tim Sheehy, a former aerial firefighter, I wrote this bill to help reduce the level of damage inflicted by future natural disasters like wildfires or floods.

I’m proud that my first bill introduced in the Senate is a bipartisan effort that will directly help California communities upgrade their homes with measures that we know will reduce damage and save lives. And it’s the first of many bills to come.

I wouldn’t be in this position, able to support Californians and people across the country from future natural disasters, without your support and trust.
