Brothers and Sisters,
President Donald Trump and his political allies, including billionaire Elon Musk and Robert F. Kennedy Jr, have proposed slashing billions in funding for National Institutes of Health (NIH) grants, gutting medical research grants at hospitals and universities across the country, including in California.
That is why on tomorrow, on April 8th, the UAW is leading the charge to Kill The Cuts once and for all.
The stakes couldn’t be higher.
Trump has proposed cutting funding for live-saving research, including at the University of California system. This includes funding for cutting edge research into Alzheimer’s, cancer, diabetes, multiple sclerosis and more.
NIH research grants save lives: An estimated 3.8 million lives have been saved since 1991 due to advances in early detection and treatment of cancer.
These cuts are not only harmful to our nation’s health and scientific progress, but to our economy as well. Four million people working in higher education could lose their jobs if these cuts are allowed to stand, devastating working families and the communities they live and work in.
This cannot stand.
On April 8, workers across California and across the nation will rise up and say no more, it’s time to #KillTheCuts. It is a National Day of Action.
Here’s how you can sign up to take part and here’s where you can find out where actions are taking place!
We need to mobilize and show this president and his billionaire cronies that we will not tolerate their attempt to gut our groundbreaking medical research!
In Solidarity,
Lorena Gonzalez
