Dear supporters,

HB 1738, by Representative Venton Jones, a proud advocate for LGBT rights, will be heard in House Criminal Jurisprudence Committee.

This is a very harmful bill. This version of the bill addresses the deletion of the Texas Penal Code 21.06’s classification of homosexual conduct. However, the end result of this bill would be to make homosexuality more acceptable in materials read by children, and more acceptable as overall conduct in the State of Texas.

This type of legislation is the opposite of protecting children and families in Texas. Section 21.06 reinforces the point that homosexuality is not an acceptable lifestyle, and it registers our state’s disagreement with the wrongly decided U.S. Supreme Court decision in Lawrence v. Texas which made Section 21.06 unenforceable.

We need your help to defeat this terrible bill! If you are in the Austin area, please consider showing up tomorrow at the Texas Capitol to testify in opposition to HB 1738.

Over thirty years of research confirms that children fare best when reared by their two biological parents in a loving, low conflict marriage. Children navigate developmental stages more easily, perform better academically, have fewer emotional disorders, and become better functioning adults when reared within their natural family.
