Rest and recharge, find ways to sustainably contribute, and keep the momentum going!
Arlington Young Dems

Hey John -

This past week has been filled with a vast range of emotions. Anger, frustration, fear, despair, hope, courage, we’ve truly run the gamut. We still grieve the countless Black lives that have been cut short by police brutality and systemic racism. We have seen charges brought against the murders of George Floyd and Ahmaud Arbery, yet the police responsible for Breonna Taylor’s death, and honestly many more cases beyond that, have yet to be held responsible.

Again and again we are disappointed by the lack of overall accountability in the criminal justice system, but we are heartened by and stand with the outpouring of support seen at protests this past week in all 50 states and around the world. Arlington itself was 800 strong at a rally in Courthouse yesterday, many of whom went on to join over 10,000 protesters marching in D.C. We must continue to seek systemic change in our society and institutions and another part of that fight is at the ballot box. Campaign season has begun and we hope you will volunteer to help us elect Democratic nominee Takis Karantonis for the July 7th Arlington County Board special election.
Remember to rest and recharge, find ways to sustainably contribute, and keep the momentum going!

AYD has invited workers from the postal service, commercial sanitation, health care, and DCA to come and speak at a virtual town hall on Tuesday, June 9th at 7 pm. While we are in still in the midst of reopening, Arlington Young Dems feels it is necessary to raise the voices of those who have been working on the frontlines of the pandemic to speak about their work conditions, lack of PPE, and what we can do as non-essential workers and allies to aid them.

I encourage you all to join the AYD Campaigns Slack using the button below, even if you are unable to attend tonight.

Questions? Email our campaigns director, Ian White, at [email protected]

AYD Resource Guide: Challenge Racial Injustice

AYD has created a challenge racial injustice resource guide. While protesting in person is not an option for everyone, you can contact representatives, sign petitions, make donations, get out the vote, and consume anti-racist media as actionable alternatives. If you would like to participate in in-person civic engagement, contact Dan Goldberg at (610) 457-0591.

If you have any questions or would like to join our Diversity & Inclusion Committee, please contact AYD Secretary and D&I Chair Maya Jones at [email protected].
