April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month

In Washington State and across the country, we recognize Sexual Assault Awareness Month in April. This year’s theme is "*Together We Act, United We Change,*" highlighting the importance of working together to stop sexual abuse, assault, and harassment.

Everyone has the right to live in safe and supportive spaces. When our workplaces, schools, and communities work together to protect and respect each other, we take real steps to prevent sexual violence.

People with intellectual and developmental disabilities are at a much greater risk of experiencing sexual assault than those without disabilities. It is important to connect the people we support to their communities to help prevent sexual assault.

*How to report sexual assault if you or someone you know needs help*


* Call 911 to report sexual assault or abuse or a life-threatening situation.
* Make a report with local law enforcement right away if you suspect sexual assault.
* If you are making a report about a child, call the Department of Children, Youth and Families at 1-866-END HARM (1-866-363-4276) or find your local intake number [ [link removed] ].
* If you are making a report about an adult, call DSHS’ Adult Protective Services at 1-877-734-6277 or make an online report [ [link removed] ].
* Call or email your DDA case manager. If you do not know who that is, call your local DDA office [ [link removed] ] and talk with an employee.
