Happy Second Chance Month! Yesterday I had the joy of speaking at National Community Church in Washington, D.C., my church home, for their Second Chance Sunday service. Together, we celebrated the beauty of the Gospel and the second chance we can have in Jesus.
These celebrations are happening across the country! You can even watch the Second Chance Sunday service at Concord Church in Dallas, Texas, via livestream on April 13. Services will go live at 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. CT.
You probably know someone who has a criminal record, or you might have a loved one behind bars. The opportunity to care for impacted families is right here in our own churches and communities. As Jesus offers us a second chance, we can offer a second chance to others.
Since 2017,Second Chance Month has grown into a national movement. My hope is that more churches will take the lead in demonstrating the Gospel message and a consistent witness to our culture. The Church is uniquely positioned to love and serve those impacted by incarceration. And as we live out that calling faithfully, we can experience fresh hope, together with our brothers and sisters behind bars.
More than 1,000 partners, including churches and organizations, have committed to celebrating second chances. Here are some ways your church can get involved:
Serve in ongoing relational support ministries, including marriage counseling and addiction recovery groups like Celebrate Recovery.
Host a Second Chance Sunday to share a message of second chances and celebrate the fresh start we can have in Jesus.

Second Chance Sundays have been huge for our church. It’s created a culture in which everyone feels free to truly embrace one another in Christ as He designed us to be.
