John,
We are in the middle of an uprising.
Millions are taking to the streets. We are mourning the loss of George, Breonna, Tony, Ahmaud and so many others.
We are overwhelmed by our feelings of despair, rage, pain, anxiety, and disbelief.
But in the midst of what feels like our hearts and our souls being pulled from our bodies, we are demanding justice for our brothers and sisters. We will not ignore this opportunity to create the outcomes our communities deserve. It is time to transform.
Transformation that will hold law enforcement accountable for the violence they inflict, transformation that will eradicate this racist system that breeds corruption, and transformation that ensures our people are not left behind.
We must go town-by-town, city-by-city, person-by-person and #DefundPolice.

In order to move forward, we have to support, value, and honor the contributions Black people have made in this country for centuries.
It is time to acknowledge the systemic oppression that has brought us to this point, and repair the pain inflicted upon Black people.
It’s time to transform Black communities so that we can fully realize the American dream.
It is time to expose the overfunding, militarization, and unaccountability of murderous police forces whose history is deeply rooted in the terrorizing and killing of Black people.
It is time to divest from violent policing infrastructure and invest in strengthening Black communities.
