Three years ago Brand New Congress started talking to a spitfire activist in West Virginia. She had stood toe to toe with a U.S. Senator, House and state representatives.

We were moved to tears when she demanded clean water and asked Sen. Joe Manchin, “Some of the cleanest water in the world is gone. It’s destroyed. Who’s going to clean up the mess when coal is gone, Senator?”  

“We are tired of being collateral damage.”

That was just the beginning. Paula Jean Swearengin had an honesty to her that told us; she’s lived through the struggle and she’s here to fight for something better for herself and others.

In 2018, as a BNC candidate, Paula ran a statewide Senate race, built on volunteers and small dollar donations. Her campaign managed to get the highest voting turnout in 75 years in a Democratic primary and garnered more votes than any Republican in their primary. 

Paula’s running again, and this time she’s gearing up to take on Republican Shelley Moore Capito in the general. We KNOW Paula can win her race. Paula would be an absolute powerhouse in the U.S. Senate.
