Dear Friend --

This weekend, Long Beach is likely to reach our 100th death from COVID-19. The United States recently passed 100 thousand deaths. It’s a stark and sad reminder that even as important issues around racial justice and safety demand our attention, we are still in the middle of the health crisis here in Long Beach and around the country.

Our thoughts are with the family and friends of those who have died.

We are continuing to reopen our economy, and doing so in close alignment with the state and the county, but we have to do this as carefully and safely as possible. We know the state recently made a series of announcements for reopening and we are reviewing those this weekend with announcements to come early this week

As of now, many activities are allowed again but we can’t just go back to “normal.” Hospitalizations and deaths are still increasing. Not only is physical distancing still important, with more people back out in the community it is now more important than ever.

Retail shops are open but have to maintain enough space for people to keep physically distanced. Restaurants are also open for dining in but with limited capacity. You can get your hair cut. The beach is open but only for active recreation.

As a reminder, let’s make sure to:

- Cover your face in public, when entering a business, and when in close contact with others

- Wash your hands frequently

- Maintain a six foot distance from anyone not in your immediate household
