(David Swanson) Already we’ve seen, as a result of people taking to the streets in the United States: Four policemen indicted. More racist monuments dismantled. Some minimal and inconsistent limit on what the New York Times editorial page will defend having done in the way of spreading evil. Some minimal and inconsistent limit on what Twitter will [...]

“Ancient and slow-growing deep sea corals, endangered large whales and sea turtles, and an incredible array of fish, seabirds, sharks, dolphins and other wildlife—these are the species and habitats that will pay the price.” (By: Jake Johnson, Common Dreams) In a move that environmentalists warned could further imperil hundreds of endangered species and a protected [...]

As the coronavirus pandemic continues to disrupt American life, expanding legal services can help Americans endure. Eddie Brown seemed to fit the profile of a federal inmate most eligible for emergency release during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. As a survivor of hepatitis C who had served six of his 15-year sentence, Brown should have been a [...]

Where Trump succeeds is in presenting himself as a Christian nationalist, much as Putin and Modi style themselves as the stout defenders of their countries’ dominant religions. (Common Dreams) It was a striking moment: Donald Trump, Bible in hand, posing for photos in an apparent moment of political theater made possible by the dispersal of [...]

“A riot is the language of the unheard.” That’s Martin Luther King, Jr., folks. (Photo Credit: Rob Bulmahn/Flickr/CC BY 2.0) Admittedly, I am sometimes reticent about opining on movements like Black Lives Matter and the types of protests set off by George Floyd’s murder at the hands of uniformed police. I feel that black activists [...]

As protests erupted across the country after the killing of George Floyd by Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, a dozen progressive Democratic House members filed a resolution May 29 condemning police brutality not only in the case of Floyd but also in the case of Breonna Taylor, the black 26-year-old Louisville EMT who was gunned down in [...]

George Floyd’s death proves again why America needs to defund bloated and militarized police departments. Not since the mass protests that originated in Ferguson, Missouri, in 2014 when a white police officer killed a black man named Michael Brown has the United States witnessed the current magnitude of the movement against police brutality. The brutal [...]

The charge of racism is partially right and partially wrong. The murder of George Forbes is a malevolent metaphor of life in the United States under the ruling class. Racism is a huge part of that larger class warfare being waged by those in power on those with less than. Less money, less education, less housing, less everything Except the power to protest inequity and inequality with people power.
