These Men Were Deported to El Salvador With No Due Process. Their Stories Show Why an Investigation Is Necessary [[link removed]]
None of the people on board the deportation flights knew what was coming, nor were they given any opportunity to raise objections in a court of law. All these men are now being held incommunicado in El Salvador’s notorious “CECOT,” or Terrorism Confinement Center. The men had their heads shaved, were stripped naked, and struck by guards, with one man reported to have sobbed, pleading with guards, “I’m not a gang member. I’m gay. I’m a barber.” Since that moment, none of the men have been able to speak to the public, their loved ones, or their lawyers. Their fate remains unknown.

Tax Day is approaching, but the Trump administration’s mass deportation efforts may make many undocumented immigrants hesitant to file taxes. Some worry that providing personal information to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) could be used against them.

FACTS YOU SHOULD KNOW
T he Trump administration’s aggressive immigration enforcement tactics—which have also swept up legal residents and U.S. citizens—has started to come under fire by some of the president’s supporters.

ACROSS THE NATION
The Trump administration wants to force millions of immigrants to register with the government—or face criminal charges.
The administration is attempting to transform America into a “show me your papers” country—one where even 14-year-olds must register, and where racial profiling, language discrimination, and harassment extend to naturalized and even U.S.-born citizens living in multicultural communities. The non-citizen registry requirement will impact millions of people across the country and will waste law enforcement resources.
This week, the Council filed a lawsuit against the administration. We’re leading this lawsuit because this registration scheme is unlawful, unjust, and a direct attack on all communities.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK
“This rule is an invitation for widespread abuse. We’re talking about a new reality in the United States, in which anyone perceived to be an immigrant would have to carry their identity documents any time they leave the house and be prepared to show them to law enforcement on demand, at risk of being arrested.”
