Hey, True Texans!
In 2015, our organization was 6 years old, and the Texas Tribune (or, as we call it, the Texas Spittoon) interviewed me. I said I felt like a fraud! In the early days, I knew nothing about politics, legislative procedures, or campaigns, and it seemed like everyone around me knew so much!
Fast forward another decade, and things are different. You know they say that if you study something for 5 years you become an expert. It's been 16 years now, and I noticed something this week. 77 people signed up to speak at a Tarrant County Commissioners hearing. We each got one minute. When the hearing made the paper, out of those 77, guess who they quoted? Me and Fran.
This is significant. Fran and I started from nothing, and we have figured things out as we go. Now when Fran registers an opinion on a bill, the committee members call her to learn more. The papers are quoting us. Candidates seek our endorsement. Organizations ask us to train them. We've come a long way, baby!
And that's my wish for you. So often Fran and I hear you're so glad for the work we do. We want you to know we are nothing special! Remember... I was the fraud! There is no reason you can't join us and gain the same influence. In fact, we will work with you and share everything we know -- which means surely we can cut the amount of time to become an expert at least in half!
Make it a point to get involved. Sitting on the sidelines -- eh... that's for passive spectators. We are True Texas warriors, and we need you!

ACTION ITEM! Rep. Brian Harrison has a petition going for his bid to replace Speaker Burrows.We agree that it’s time for a change and wholly support this petition.Harrison will deliver printed copies of all the names to the Speaker’s office next week, and we urge grassroots activists to sign on.If you would like to add your name to the petition, click here for the form.We have multiple examples of Burrows’ failed leadership as Speaker, and it’s time we stand up and do something about it.The petition will send a powerful message that grassroots Texans are not happy with our representation in the Texas House.
Please sign the petition no later than noon on Monday April 7.
