Since taking office, Donald Trump and Elon Musk have claimed to be making our government more efficient by cutting wasteful spending. What is all that waste they’re targeting?
Scientific research into cancer and Alzheimer’s disease at the National Institutes of Health.
Meteorologists at the National Weather Service who track tornadoes and other dangerous weather conditions.
Social Security offices that ensure that payments are made on time and provide support for seniors and people with disabilities in communities across the country.
And they won’t stop there. Musk has called Social Security, one of the most successful government programs in history, “the biggest ponzi scheme of all time” and made it clear that he doesn’t just want to close offices or cut staff—he wants to cut off Social Security payments, too.1
77% of retirees—tens of millions of people—rely on Social Security to pay for everyday necessities. We cannot, and will not, allow the richest man in the world to rip away lifesaving benefits just to satisfy his own ego.2
John, we need to make sure that everyone knows exactly what Elon is trying to do—because the more people know about it, the more they want to stop it.
Musk poured at least $21 million into Tuesday’s Wisconsin Supreme Court race, claiming that the outcome would define the future of all “Western civilization.”3 He even went to Wisconsin days before the election to hand out $1 million checks to get people to vote.
Two days later, his candidate lost by 10 points.4
Musk might have a lot of money, but he is not all-powerful.
We need to keep spreading the word about what Musk and Trump are doing to our country in order to grow the movement we will need to win back power in Congress next year and put a stop to their vengeful efforts.
