Hi friend,

This week, in a massive blow to Elon Musk, Democrats in Wisconsin won their critical Supreme Court race – preserving their 4-3 liberal majority. Musk spent $20 million trying to prop up the right-wing candidate in the race, but Wisconsin delivered a decisive victory for Susan Crawford (and special thank you to everyone who helped support Susan’s campaign!). While Democrats didn’t win the special elections in FL-01 and FL-06, they overperformed Trump’s showing in those districts by 22 points and 16 points, respectively. And Senator Cory Booker spoke for 25 hours straight on the Senate floor to call attention to Trump’s attacks on Americans and our democracy — thank you to everyone who split a contribution to our campaigns earlier this week.

I’m fired up. I have said before that this moment is not about Democrats or Republicans; it’s about everyday Patriots from every background standing together against Trump’s government. But we have to keep the energy alive and not cede a single inch.

To that end, I wanted to let you know our next Patriot Planning Zoom Call will be on April 7th at 5pm. Thank you to everyone who has joined me for our monthly Zoom sessions. I’ve really enjoyed hearing from folks about their questions and perspectives and I think we’ve been able to discuss meaningful ideas for how to keep the faith and keep up the fight during these dark times. You can sign up here. [[link removed]]

This week, I’m going to talk about how the Trump administration’s actions continue to have devastating effects locally, statewide, and across the country – and what we can do to fight back.

What's going on

Hudson Valley

[link removed] [[link removed]] Last month, I launched a community inquiry about health care in the Hudson Valley. The volume of responses, the specificity of issues, and the frankly heartbreaking stories involved are unlike anything I’ve seen in my time in Congress. We received more than 1,800 responses from patients and current and former healthcare workers, and the findings were deeply troubling.

What I’m doing: I submitted every single piece of our data to the Department of Justice, the Department of Health and Human Services, and the Federal Trade Commission for further investigation. And I will push relentlessly for further action. When our Hudson Valley community stands up with one voice, anything is possible.

What you can do: If you live in the Hudson Valley, fill out this survey [[link removed]] so we can continue gathering data. And if you don’t live in NY-18, call your member of Congress and encourage them to do an inquiry of their own. We need to get the word out, across the country, that we will not stand by while the largest healthcare company in the world drives down care quality and drives up costs.New York

Last month, the Department of Health and Human Services announced that it was terminating more than $11 billion in funding for public health, mental health, and addiction services – including more than $400 million for New York. That’s why New York Attorney General Letitia James joined 22 others states in suing the Trump Administration to restore this critical funding.

What I’m doing: I’m in touch with impacted organizations across the district, working to get them whatever support and answers we can in this trying time. I’ve already written directly to Secretary of Health and Human Services Kennedy calling for the cuts. And next week, I’ll be upping the pressure, publicly, with specific examples of services cut in the Hudson Valley.

What you can do: This is a nationwide problem. If you’re lucky enough to be in New York, AG James is leading the charge. But if you are not, make sure your State Attorney General is party to the suit. And keep an eye out for upcoming public events as we get the word out on these cuts.Washington

[link removed] [[link removed]]In what Trump deemed “Liberation Day”, the White House unveiled a slew of aggressive tariffs. Let’s be clear: Tariffs are a tax on the middle class, and American families, who are already getting hammered by the affordability crisis, will bear the cost. Tariffs are not paid for by other countries, they are passed onto the consumer by businesses raising prices.

What I’m doing: I made sure to get on TV, both locally and nationally, ahead of the tariffs announcement to start setting the table for future messaging. First and foremost, that tariffs are a tax, and that these specific tariffs are the single largest tax increase in American history. The next step is applying legislative pressure, which will begin as soon as we get back to DC next week.

What you can do: I’ll be honest. Trump has done a lot of unpopular stuff. From what I’m hearing from my colleagues, both Democrats and Republicans, is that nothing has united people so uniformly as the tariff announcement. I know how stressful these past few days have been, and the extra pressure we’re all feeling on our wallets. But this is the exact moment to up the volume. Congress has the power to overturn these tariffs, and we’re going to need everyone speaking with one voice to get enough Republican members on board to stand up for their constituents and against Trump.

Going on offense

[link removed] [[link removed]] I have continued to beat the drum on Signalgate. This week, I joined Morning Joe, Inside with Jen Psaki, and the Arena with Kasie Hunt to talk about this historic breach in national security and demand an investigation into Pete Hegseth and how this happened.

Keep the faith, keep up the fight, and thank you for reading!

In Solidarity,

Pat
