John,
Donald Trump just signed an executive order aimed at massively restricting
voting rights.
[ [link removed] ]Headline from the New York Times: "Trump is Trying to Gain More Power
Over Elections. Is his Effort Legal?" Subhead: "A far-reaching executive
order aims to reshape the country's voting laws, is sure to be challenged
in court and reflects the president's concerted push to expand his power
His order requires proof of citizenship to register to vote – a barrier
that could impact millions of lawful voters. It also throws out mail-in
ballots not received by election day, a huge blow to our military members
serving overseas and others who rely on absentee voting.
Here’s the bottom line: The Constitution clearly gives states power to set
election rules, not the president. Trump cannot unilaterally decide how
all 50 states run their elections.
When an out-of-control president makes huge power grabs like this, we rely
on the courts to hold him accountable. Demand Justice PAC fights to
protect and strengthen our judicial system – so it has the power to stop
people like Trump.
