This week, we saw mass layoffs at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which included the majority of the team responsible for collecting, analyzing, and reporting critical gun violence data.
Musk’s DOGE-led cuts eliminate crucial gun violence prevention resources that communities and policymakers rely on to understand gun violence and save lives. Without accurate information, we will not be able to develop evidence-based solutions and fully treat the complex, multi-faceted issue of gun violence. When fighting against a public health crisis that claims more than 100 lives a day, we need more information and resources — not less.
Because at the end of the day, we cannot address what we don’t understand.
This latest attack doesn’t come as a surprise. This is an intentional erosion of our ability to understand and respond to the most pressing public health issues of our time. We have seen the Trump administration dismantle life-saving programs and layoff staff at agencies Americans rely on — the entire Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) saw massive, sweeping layoffs this week.
We also know that job loss, financial stress, and lack of support increase the risk of suicide. Firearms can turn a movement of crisis into a permanent tragedy and in difficult times like these, it is essential to protect ourselves and our loved ones, including through secure firearm storage.

Celebrating Our Life-Saving Work on the State and Local Levels It’s difficult to not feel overwhelmed by what is happening with the federal government. So today, we’re uplifting and celebrating some of the life-saving work Brady and Team ENOUGH activists have accomplished in communities and state houses nationwide. |

In Florida, Team ENOUGH youth advocates led an advocacy day to defend life-saving gun safety policies and advocate for new legislative solutions. Right now, some Florida lawmakers are attempting to pass a bill to LOWER the age requirement to purchase a firearm from 21 to 18. In the wake of the Parkland shooting, Team ENOUGH and Brady fought hard to raise the minimum age, which this bill now aims to undo. Led by co-leads Logan Rubenstein and Ananya Misra and legislative coordinator Adrion Milton, students advocated for HB 759 to keep the existing minimum age requirements to purchase a firearm as well as HB 171 to establish youth conflict resolution programs.

In response to recent attacks on gun safety, Brady Dover Chapter Lead and gun violence survivor Denise Marks has been spearheading protests in her state of Delaware. This included a rally with our partner Indivisible in Central Delaware. Denise’s daughter died by firearm suicide, and since then, she has channeled her pain into action. We thank Denise for speaking out and calling attention to actions to dismantle gun safety!
In Colorado, Brady staff have been providing expert testimony in support of life-saving gun violence prevention bills that have been advocated for by grassroots supporters like you, friend. The bills would establish age minimums to purchase ammunition and ban the sale of ammunition in vending machines, as well as bolstering safety at gun shows in the state.

Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. |
It was 57 years ago yesterday that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was tragically shot and killed in Memphis, TN, by a white supremacist, sending shock waves around the world. Dr. King fought tirelessly for racial equality, justice, and the end of segregation, teaching us how to speak up and speak out through nonviolent protest and civil disobedience. And while he made tremendous progress during his life, the fight for racial equality continues today.
Mass shootings in America often capture the national headlines in the news cycle, but the vast majority of day-to-day gun homicides disproportionately impact Black and Brown communities. In fact, Black Americans are more than twice as likely to die and 14 times more likely to be wounded from gun violence than white Americans. If we are to fully address this epidemic, we must all consider how public policy has made it so that people of color, particularly Black and Brown people, are more likely to face conditions that facilitate gun violence.
