Why students should read Ayn Rand

Friend,
In college, I got tired of being told that I had read _Atlas Shrugged_
or that I was an Objectivist…so I went out and began reading
Rand’s novels and other writings. And my perspective on the world
has never been the same.
Rand didn’t just write novels — she illustrated the mindset of
those who seek to control others, using crises as an excuse to expand
government power and stifle individual achievement.
I HAVE MET MANY JOHN GALTS, _BUT I HAVE ALSO MET PLENTY OF WESLEY
MOUCHES AND ELLSWORTH TOOHEYS_. THOSE VILLAINS ARE REAL, AND THEIR
ENVY-DRIVEN IDEOLOGY IS WHAT WE NEED TO FIGHT.
Rand’s novels predicted a battle that is playing out today.
Public officials are messing with the lives and businesses of the
productive and placing the blame for the consequences on capitalism.
The rising generation is hearing this nonsense, and it’s turned into
support for socialism, which will only make matters worse.
The best way to counter the narrative is to introduce the next
generation to the moral case for capitalism and provide them with a
guide to life that celebrates the remarkable potential and power of
the individual: Ayn Rand’s philosophy of Objectivism.
THE ATLAS SOCIETY BRINGS AYN RAND'S IDEAS TO NEW AUDIENCES THROUGH
VARIOUS METHODS, INCLUDING ANIMATED VIDEOS, SOCIAL MEDIA, VIRTUAL AND
LIVE EVENTS, AND GRAPHIC NOVELS.
I believe in their great work. I’ve collaborated with The Atlas
Society on various discussions and interviews, including speaking at
their student conferences, doing interviews on their podcast, and even
doing stand-up comedy at one of their fundraising galas!

I do this as a matter of justice — given how much I’ve benefited
from Rand’s ideas — but also because I deeply respect The Atlas
Society’s CEO, Jennifer Grossman, with whom I’ve been friends for
35 years. I told her I would help her raise $30,000 online this month
to introduce more young minds to Ayn Rand's ideas.
Can you please send an urgent donation to The Atlas Society to help
them bring these crucial ideas to a new generation?

I had the privilege of spending time with Jennifer at Burning Man
2024. While you might be surprised to hear that we participated,
something spectacular takes place out in the desert.
* A demonstration of what man can build and create without
government.
* An outpouring of artistic creativity and human ingenuity.
* An example of individuals transforming a harsh physical
environment for individual flourishing.
* A display of benevolence in action, as social entrepreneurs seek
out opportunities to provide value.
* An instance of 75,000 individuals coming together to pursue
happiness.
* A hive of productive labor, resourcefulness, and achievement.
Given this outpouring of productivity and creativity, it’s apt to
say that Burning Man celebrates the message of _Atlas Shrugged_, its
author, Ayn Rand, and the values she celebrated.
THE NOVEL IS ABOUT MORE THAN GOVERNMENT OVERREACH — AND CONSEQUENT
ECONOMIC DESTRUCTION AND MORAL DECAY. IT IS ABOUT HEROIC
ENTREPRENEURSHIP, INDIVIDUAL ACHIEVEMENT, AND FREE MINDS.
It’s also about relationships and a community of productive creators
who are unwilling to be sacrificed or to sacrifice others.

P.S. Ayn Rand’s works remind me of what was at stake.
Without a moral philosophy based on reason, achievement,
individualism, and freedom, the next generation will continue to
embrace a culture of irrationalism, entitlement, victimhood,
collectivism, and resentment.
THAT’S WHY THE ATLAS SOCIETY’S EFFORT TO ADAPT RAND’S WORKS INTO
A MEDIUM THAT APPEALS TO THE NEXT GENERATION IS SO IMPORTANT.
Rand’s works reinforce that our fight is on principle. They teach us
that everyone should be free to pursue their understanding of the
virtuous life limited only by the prohibition of using force against
others.
IF YOU HAVE READ RAND, THEN YOU ARE WELL PREPARED TO HAVE YOUR FREEDOM
ATTACKED BY THOSE WHO WISH TO CONTROL THE LIVES OF OTHERS.
Please donate today and prepare the next generation for a life of
freedom.
