Answering Your Questions
There has been a lot going on in Congress over the past few weeks and I want to be sure to answer your questions directly.
As part of my focus on remaining open and accessible to you, I joined Janesville's WCLO Radio Station this past Monday for a live radio town hall to answer your questions about what is going on in Washington and how we can help support Wisconsin families. Over our 45 minute conversation, we covered topics like the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), securing our southern border, term limits, and how government fees are utilized.
If you missed it, you can listen to our conversation here.
Stopping Terrorist Funding
The U.S. government has long acknowledged that the Iranian regime is the largest State Sponsor of Terrorism in the world, a designation that Iran first received in 1984. Despite this designation, we have seen some administrations take steps to reduce sanctions on Iran even in the face of increasing hostilities.
In late 2023, the Biden Administration allowed the Republic of Iran to access up to $10 billion in previously restricted resources using a sanctions waiver. This action took place in spite of the fact that the Iranian-backed Houthi militias were already attacking shipping in the Red Sea and Hamas terrorists had just brutally attacked Israel, killing over a thousand citizens and taking hundreds of innocent people hostage, including U.S. citizens. The U.S. should never allow the funding of terrorist activity or enable terrorist attacks on U.S. Citizens or our allies.
While some steps have been taken to roll back these actions, Congress should take action to codify these actions and prevent future administrations from making these same mistakes.
On Tuesday, I joined my colleagues to highlight my bill, the No Sanctions Relief for Terrorists Act, part of the Enforcing Maximum Pressure Initiative. This legislation explicitly prohibits future administrations from providing sanctions relief to foreign nations, like Iran, unless they can demonstrate that those nations are no longer funding terrorism.

STABLE Act Passes Through Committee
This week, the House Financial Services Committee voted to pass my bill, the Stablecoin Transparency and Accountability for a Better Ledger Economy (STABLE) Act, in a full committee markup. This bill sets clear standards for the issuance and operation of dollar-denominated stablecoins. Stablecoins are a type of digital payment, in this case backed by the U.S. Dollar, that are rapidly growing in popularity. This important technology has the potential to make transactions faster, cheaper, and more secure. I'm working to make sure they are safe.
In my remarks, I highlighted that by implementing clear rules of the road, we can not only protect Americans from fraud but incentivize the development of this new technological innovation here in the United States and ensure the continued dominance of the U.S. Dollar worldwide.
I recently talked with one of our local news stations to discuss the importance of this legislation to Wisconsin families and small businesses; watch our conversation above or click here to read more.
As always, feel free to contact my office if you have any questions, want to share an opinion, or are having trouble with a federal agency.
On Wisconsin,
Bryan Steil Member of Congress
