John,
We’ve got a LOT of exciting news to share from the past month, so we put together this April Newsletter just for you! Keep reading to catch up on our recent wins and updates for the fight ahead.
Acing the First Electoral Tests of 2025
In the last month, WFP champions across the country faced the first major electoral tests of the year — and voters turned out en masse to show their support!
This Tuesday in Wisconsin, Democrat Susan Crawford won a landslide victory for State Supreme Court over MAGA extremist Brad Schimel. This win means that the court will hold on to its liberal majority, protecting abortion rights, workers rights, and voters rights across the state.
Elon Musk dumped tens of millions of dollars into this race, showed up at rallies, and tried to bribe voters for $1 million each, but the people of Wisconsin refused to let him buy this election and instead handed him an embarrassing defeat.
We’re so proud of the organizing from the Wisconsin Working Families Party, who executed one of the largest spring field programs ever, resulting in:
- 25,606 1-on-1 conversations with voters via canvassing and phones.
- 703 volunteers sending 36,868 personal postcards to voters.
- A $15,000 paid digital ad campaign to reach our targeted voter audience with messages around public safety.
- And overall, we reached out to voters 661,330 times, had 44,841 successful conversations, and identified 15,408 voters for Judge Susan Crawford.
Last month in Maryland, voters cast their ballots in special elections for County Executive and Council in Prince George’s County, the largest in the state. Both of our WFP-endorsed candidates, Aisha Braveboy and Shayla Adams-Stafford, won important victories — securing a progressive majority that can take on housing affordability and support the county’s many federal workers under attack from the Trump administration.
Wins like these are only possible because of WFP members like you who donate their time, energy, and resources to electing champions for working people at every level of government, and taking the fight directly to the billionaires. Help us keep going:

Congressional Recess Report: “Empty Chair” Town Halls
Members of Congress went on recess last month — and WFP members and Working Families Power went to work holding them accountable.
Thousands of people joined “empty chair” town halls for representatives who are too afraid of their own constituents to even hear their questions. Here are some highlights:
-
Arizona — Despite narrowly winning his last re-election with exactly 50.0% of the vote, Rep. Juan Ciscomani has hid from voters and refused to hold in-person public town hall meetings. Although he refused the invitation when he was invited to a town hall meeting by Honest Arizona, LUCHA, Working Families Power and other local partners, they held one anyway so that constituents could voice their concerns about his lack of leadership.
-
California — The last day of recess, Rep. Ro Khanna held a town hall tour co-sponsored by Working Families Power of three GOP-held districts in California (CA-22, CA-41, and CA-45). You can read more about his tour here and see the full video of his Bakersfield event, including remarks from WFP-champion local elected official Visalia school board trustee Randy Villegas (remarks begin at 24:26).
-
New York — While Rep. Mike Lawler is a frequent fixture on cable news, he’s largely avoided meeting with his constituents. So this past weekend, Rockland Indivisible and the Westchester-Putnam Working Families Party held a town hall with Lt. Gov. Antonio Delgado to discuss how the proposed GOP budget would affect families in NY-17.
-
New Jersey — Congressman Tom Kean Jr. has been one of the most elusive members of Congress in the country. While he has refused to meet with his constituents, Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman joined Citizen Action New Jersey, Working Families Power, and other local community groups to do his job for him and explain just how devastating proposed Medicaid cuts would be.
-
Pennsylvania — In Pennsylvania, Working Families Power has been working closely with local partners like SEIU to hold Reps. Mackenzie and Perry accountable for their votes to cut billions from Medicaid, and recently co-sponsored events in both districts to hear from constituents. You can see coverage of the event in Rep. Perry’s district here, including this viral clip of a constituent whose son was fired from the Department of Education, and read about the People’s Town Hall in Rep. Mackenzie’s district here.
-
Wisconsin — In Wisconsin, Working Families Power co-sponsored a town hall with Wisconsin Secretary of State Sarah Godlewski, where she took questions from constituents that Rep. Derrick Van Orden is too scared to answer. The event was covered both locally in Wisconsin and nationally on MSNBC.
We refuse to let our elected officials hide from the people they’re meant to represent. Throughout the year, working families will continue to speak truth to power and demand answers in return. If you're in this fight with us, click here to find opportunities to get involved.
1000+ Working People Sign Up to Run for Office with WFP!
Our billionaire-backed political system isn’t going to change itself. We need people in office who come from working class backgrounds — who know what it’s like to work hard day in and day out for a paycheck that doesn’t always pay the bills.
That’s why last month, we announced one of our most ambitious goals in WFP’s history: to recruit more than 1,000 working-class candidates to run for office at every level of government across the country.
We were inspired to see that more than 1,000 of you have already signed up!
If you believe our government should work for everyday people, not just the wealthy and well-connected, and are ready to step up and lead — now might just be your time, John. Sign up to find out the basics of running for office and how to seek WFP’s support.
Our plan is to provide guidance, training, and resources to elect more working people at every level of government, including local offices that all too often get ignored. Can you make a contribution to ensure we have the resources to give these working class candidates the support they need and deserve? Click here to pitch in.
Hands Off! Join the Biggest Protest since Trump Took Office on Saturday
This Saturday, April 5, more than 1000 protests will be held across the country with workers, students, seniors, veterans, immigrants, and everyday families coming together to say: Hands off our services. Hands off our rights. And hands off our communities.
Working Families Power will be co-sponsoring the national Day of Action, because we’ve all seen that every person in the streets makes our message louder, our movement stronger, and this fight impossible to ignore.

NYWFP Releases NYC Mayoral Endorsement Slate
We’re proud to support four bold progressive leaders — Adrienne Adams, Brad Lander, Zohran Mamdani, and Zellnor Myrie — in the June election for New York City Mayor!
New York City uses ranked choice voting in mayoral elections, meaning that voters can rank multiple candidates in order of preference. The candidate with the lowest number of votes each round will have their support transferred to the voter’s next choice, until one candidate has 50% of the votes or higher.
By ranking all four of our endorsed candidates, NYC voters can keep progressives united and maximize the chance to elect a Working Families champion who fights for all of us.
Visit our new website, RankTheSlate.nyc, to learn more about our strategy and each member of our mayoral slate. Then, stay tuned! We’ll be releasing a proposed ranking as the election gets closer.

I believed in the American dream growing up because of my immigrant family. My parents worked multiple minimum wage jobs and saved each penny over two decades to buy a small business. It was a source of pride in our family, but, as I got older, it felt infuriating. My parents’ employers preyed on them as non-English speakers and underpaid them for years because they could not leave their job easily. Working families like mine struggle to survive, and we have so many problems that we need to solve and are solvable, but the current system prioritizes the status quo. WFP is different. WFP is focused on building power from the ground up and they are willing to work through the current conditions to get great candidates elected. Working families need a xxxxxx for them and WFP shows me they are committed to being that through the strategic actions they are taking and the policies they are focusing on.
The 2024 election was the straw that broke my back. I knew I had to jump off the sidelines I joined some WFP Welcome Gatherings and listened. At one Welcome Gathering, they talked about Wolf Packs, small, action-oriented groups of leaders who take on specific roles to grow WFP membership and amplify our national activist work. I decided to do some research and found a YouTube clip with WFP National Director Maurice Mitchell talking about them. He said something that stuck with me: Our relational capital is the most powerful capital on this planet. I decided to raise my hand to be a Wolf Pack leader. I can talk to my friends, family members, and co-workers and build on our trust and connection to address issues that concern us. I can help convince them to get off the sideline to vote and build power.
It is easy to get lost in the quicksand that is doom scrolling, thinking about how messed up society can be. The Wolf Pack members energize me and show me there are folks that care in the community that I live in. I am sure many of them will become lifelong friends.
