A Message from Gabe:

Greetings Rhode Islanders,

Since the start of this Administration, I have been sounding the alarm about Donald Trump’s actions that impact the lives of people here at home. Through the chaos and confusion of funding cuts, mass layoffs, and policy proposals that will roll back economic opportunity and the functioning of government agencies, it has been a difficult 74 days for people in our district and around the country.

Amidst these challenges and to continue listening to Rhode Islanders, I hosted a town hall at Riverside Middle School yesterday. I was also grateful to have Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha as my guest to share updates on litigation he is leading alongside attorneys general around the country. We heard directly from Rhode Islanders about their concerns and discussed how we’re responding to Trump and Elon Musk's adverse actions.

Rhode Islanders are understandably worried about Trump’s unconstitutional federal funding freeze and Elon Musk’s efforts, which are eliminating federal agencies and eroding essential functions of government agencies we depend on. At the town hall, I discussed steps I’m taking to hold Trump accountable, including providing oversight in committee, leading letters with my Democratic colleagues, pushing back on his disastrous tariff proposals, standing up for Rhode Island against these disastrous funding cuts, and working to protect Social Security, Medicaid, and SNAP from Republican cuts to pay for tax breaks for billionaires.

I’m grateful to everyone who showed up and shared their thoughts. For those unable to join my Town Hall, I hope you’ll continue to stay connected by subscribing to my newsletter. As always, please continue to contact our district office at (401) 729-5600 or our Washington, D.C. office at (202) 225-4911 to let us know what issues matter the most to you.

Sincerely,

Image After 25 hours and 5 minutes of
Senator Cory Booker’s historic speech, I am drawn to his conclusion that the United States has reached a “moral moment” that requires a stand against the Trump Administration's policies.

In Congress, I will continue to follow his brave example by standing up and speaking out for working Americans — however long it takes.

Image Thank you to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing representatives for discussing how Congress can support and invest in professional nursing education and workforce development.

As Trump and Elon Musk's policies gut our federal health agencies and strip funding for health care initiatives, I am fighting for our nurses to ensure we can recruit and retain the best professionals to care for our communities.

Image The United States-Czechia relationship is thriving because of our economic ties and the democratic values that we share.

As the Vice Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, I discussed why it is so important to collaborate with allies on the global issues we face with Czech Ambassador Miloslav Stašek.

Image While Trump's policies spread fear and undermines our nation’s legacy as a beacon of hope, I am proud to meet with organizations like the Refugee Dream Center that provide wrap-around support to refugees in our state.

I will continue to work for comprehensive immigration solutions in Congress.

Image It was a moving day with Rhode Island Veterans on Honor Flight Rhode Island’s 32nd trip to visit the Washington D.C. memorials honoring their sacrifice and service in World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War.

I will continue to work to support our Veterans in Congress to show them the unwavering gratitude our country has for their service.

Image Happy 248th Birthday, Artillery Company of Newport!

Originally chartered by King George II in 1741, the Artillery Company of Newport has defended our freedoms in every major conflict, starting with the Revolutionary War.

I am proud to introduce legislation in Congress that honors Rhode Island’s legacy of service that has shaped our nation.

I was grateful to kick off the University of Rhode Island’s Dr. Rose Butler Browne Program’s Leadership and Mentoring Conference.

The event is named after the first black woman URI graduate, and was an opportunity to discuss my work in Congress to advocate for Rhode Islanders.

Image Thank you to everyone who participated in last week's roundtable at Woonsocket Head Start. We discussed Republican policy efforts that would cut funding for Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.

I will continue to speak out against these cruel and devastating policy cuts that would rip away health care and food assistance that young Rhode Islanders rely on to grow up healthy and strong.

I was proud to speak on my work in Congress and recognize the achievements of Rhode Island's youth at the Boys and Girls Club of Pawtucket!

It is a priority of mine in Congress to encourage young people to create positive change and have an impact on our communities.

Congressman Amo Addresses Trump Tariff Policies That Will Harm Working People
Image
CLICK HERE TO WATCH: Congressman Amo discusses Trump's thoughtless tariff tax policy hike on hardworking Americans.

This week, I joined CNN to discuss how Trump’s tariff policies are raising costs for consumers, harming credibility with our allies, and causing further uncertainty in the market. Instead of creating jobs, the President's policies are creating chaos with a reckless trade war. We are already seeing the effects of his announcement — markets plunging, increased economic turmoil, corporate layoffs, and allies around the world pledging to retaliate.

As analysts struggle to understand the long-term impacts of these tariffs and small businesses prepare themselves for higher operating costs, Trump's policies are jacking up costs for everyday Americans. The cost of these tariffs will be passed on to consumers. They will cause workers to lose their jobs and further isolate us from our allies to pay for a billionaire tax giveaway.

At a time when we should be using tariffs like a scalpel, Trump’s policies are a chainsaw.
Rhode Islanders will not stand for it.
