Dear PFAW Member,

The coronavirus crisis has shed light on the need to bolster our democracy
and protect our elections. We cannot have four more years of Trump and we
need to fight to ensure every eligible voter is able to cast their ballot
safely in November. Given the public health risks associated with
traditional in-person elections, Congress needs to adequately fund and
support a national vote-by-mail program.

In early April, Wisconsin rejected expanding vote-by-mail and instead held
its primary elections in person, putting its voters and poll workers at
risk of contracting the virus or staying home and not having their vote
counted. This decision had real consequences: 52 people who worked or
voted in the election contracted coronavirus.

Even outside of the coronavirus threat, expanding options for voting makes
casting ballots more accessible for voters who cannot access the polls
during voting hours. Several states have already successfully created
effective vote-by-mail programs; Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Utah,
California, and Hawaii have seen higher voter turnout since implementing
this pro-democracy solution.
