It is with heavy hearts and sadness that we share the news of the passing of Representative Gene Ward, a cherished leader, dedicated public servant, and beloved friend to our community and party.
Born on March 9, 1943, Gene Ward devoted his life to serving others, beginning his political journey in 1990 as a member of the Hawaii House of Representatives.
Throughout his career, he passionately represented the communities of Hawaii Kai, Kalama Valley, and Portlock. As Minority Leader and Minority Policy Leader, he embodied the ideals of unity, and commitment, always advocating for the best interests of his constituents.
Gene's contributions went far beyond politics. His life of service included serving as a Vietnam veteran, guiding humanitarian efforts as the Peace Corps Country Director in East Timor, and inspiring students as an educator at Chaminade University and Hawaii Pacific University. Gene touched countless lives through his warmth and compassion
