Subject: Say NO to hidden Medicaid cuts!
The House and the Senate have agreed on a joint budget resolution. The Senate is voting on it this week . The House will vote on the resolution sometime next week. This resolution includes instructions that would lead to Medicaid cuts in the final budget reconciliation bill. It is important to call your Senator to tell them to vote no on the budget resolution. To read about this in plain language, read our full plain language guide about Medicaid in the budget here. [[link removed]]
This budget resolution will lead to cuts in funding for government programs like Medicaid in order to cut taxes for billionaires. The government should not put tax cuts for billionaires over important services for people with disabilities!
Normally the instructions for the House and the Senate would match in the single budget resolution. Instead, they’re doing something new by giving the House and Senate differing instructions in the same budget resolution. This lets them move forward with their plan to cut Medicaid without admitting it. This is confusing, and that is on purpose. This lets the Senate claim they’re not cutting Medicaid. The House will continue to say they’re not cutting Medicaid because the cuts don’t mention Medicaid by name, even though it is impossible to reach $880 billion in cuts without cutting Medicaid.
Elected officials know that our community cares about Medicaid and that we will oppose any attempts to cut Medicaid funding. They are trying to hide that they plan to cut Medicaid. We will not fall for this. Call your elected officials today and tell them no cuts to Medicaid! Tell them how much Medicaid matters to you and to our community.
The Senate vote on the budget resolution is happening this week! First, call your Senators [[link removed]] and tell them to vote no on the budget resolution.
You can use our script:
“Hi, my name is [your name]. I am a constituent of Senator [senator’s last name] .
I am calling today to tell the Senator that I am concerned about the House’s $880 billion in cuts as part of their budget resolution. I am concerned that the resolution does not protect Medicaid from cuts and harmful changes for anyone currently receiving services. Please tell the Senator to vote no on the budget resolution. I do not want cuts to Medicaid. Any cuts will likely cause [ your state ] to cut services. I also do not want changes that add more rules to who can get Medicaid, including work requirements or more frequent disability verification. Thank you.”

We refuse to fund tax cuts for billionaires on the backs of disabled people. Let your elected officials know exactly who these cuts are hurting. We will not allow Congress to get away with cutting the programs that let us live freely in our communities. Our elected officials cannot hide cuts to our vital programs. Call and tell your elected officials: no cuts to Medicaid!
