Dear John,We’ve been amazed by your response to our ‘send a letter’ campaign.The letters’ pages of local newspapers across the UK have been filling up with messages from our supporters.We’ve seen headlines like: “Brexit and COVID will have a huge impact” and “Iceberg on the Horizon”. Clearly, readers are waking up to the fact we should not tackle two crises at once. We should secure an extension, and focus completely on beating the pandemic. You can be involved too! It’s quick and easy. Simply copy and paste the template letter at the bottom of this email, and send it on to your local paper. The email address you need should be on their website.  Let us know when you've sent your letter. I believe writing a letter to your local newspaper is an invaluable way of campaigning. While contacting your MP online with Hey-MP is brilliant, many MPs still rely on their local paper to get an idea of their constituents’ views. Mitchell, PS. After you’ve sent your letter to the editor (which you can copy and paste below), make sure you’ve told your MP about our economic assessment report using Hey-MP here! To the Editor, I’ve just seen a new report (from Best for Britain and the Social Market Foundation) on the double impact of Brexit and Coronavirus, and feel like I’ve spotted an iceberg on the horizon that everyone else is ignoring. The report shows that any change to our trade relationship with Europe during the Covid-19 recession will hurt the UK economy. The North West and the Midlands regions of the UK would face a disproportionately severe impact should we leave the Brexit transition period without any kind of deal. Brexit is done and we cannot stop it, but we can protect our jobs, our services and our local businesses. However, our communities are already stretched to breaking point by the coronavirus pandemic and we desperately need time to deal with that before we can turn our focus to our changing relationship with the EU.
