John,

I’m proud of my Senator.

Earlier this week, Senator Cory Booker from New Jersey broke the record for the longest speech ever delivered in the Senate. Senator Booker stood at the podium giving a marathon address for over 25 hours – but why?

It wasn’t just that well known Jersey grit fueling his fire – it was also to bring attention to the growing threat to our most important public programs. One of the main reasons that he decided to speak until he was no longer physically able to was the proposed cuts to Medicaid.

Senator Booker challenged us to not stand on the sidelines – now it’s your turn, sign the petition now and send a letter to your Representative.

Medicaid serves about 1 in 5 people in the country, and cuts to the program would disproportionately hurt people of color and children – like my neighbors here in New Jersey. My neighbors are the parents of disabled children, veterans in need of psychiatric care, senior citizens in rehabilitation centers and as one New Jerseyan put it: “Without [Medicaid], many people in America will die.”

We can not let every day pass as another normal day in America – this is not normal. Stand up, speak out, and take action now.

Over 72 million people are enrolled in Medicaid, with nearly 2 million of those people living in New Jersey alone. Our Senator isn’t just fighting for those 2 million, he’s fighting for the whole 72,000,000. After Tuesday’s inspiring performance, I am done with just being a witness to American history. I am determined to make history.

I hope you will join me. Let’s make good trouble.

Sign the Petition

In solidarity,
–Gabby, Digital Engagement Manager at Dream.Org
