Hi John,
You’ve seen the headlines. Last week, President Donald Trump signed a far-reaching – and likely unconstitutional – executive order ([link removed]) on elections. You’ve likely also heard about the multiple lawsuits filed, challenging many of the order’s unlawful provisions.
But, win or lose in the courts, the executive order is already having its intended impact – telling the states: Change your election laws to meet the President’s demands.
In our latest analysis, ([link removed]) our team of experts breaks down the order’s aggressive policy prescription for the states – where President Trump’s allies are already putting his agenda into action.
In his executive order, President Trump is trying to implement a new bureaucratic mandate to show documentary proof of citizenship in order to vote, which could block millions of American citizens from casting a ballot. He wants states to permit Elon Musk and DOGE to root through their voter rolls. The executive order also aims to redefine Election Day – overriding independent state laws – threatening to cut off federal funding for non-compliance.
Many provisions of Trump’s executive order may be struck down as unlawful or unconstitutional, as they should be. But no matter what happens in the courts, this executive order is fuel on the fire of election reform in all the wrong ways.
This executive order will accelerate the spread of bad policies across the country – just this week, Texas cleared a documentary proof of citizenship bill through the Senate and Florida introduced an EO-inspired bill just days after the order was announced.
