Team,
George Floyd's death didn't happen in a vacuum -- it's a symptom of the collective failing of our criminal justice system to adequately stand up for people of color. We have to do better.
Yesterday, we took another step in the fight for racial justice: Xavier announced a plan to review and reform the policing practices in the city of Vallejo -- a California city with several recent high-profile officer-involved shootings.
NBC News:
"The California Department of Justice will undertake an 'expansive review' of the police department in the Bay Area city of Vallejo, state Attorney General Xavier Becerra announced Friday, after a spate of police shootings and excessive force complaints..."
This is part of our broader fight for racial justice and we will not stop here.
Our children deserve to live in a country where the color of their skin doesn't determine the frontier of their possibilities.
We must all do our part to build that future -- and the time to do it is now.
Onward,
Team Becerra
