“[Donald Trump] has promised the American workers that the old standard of living can come back. Over the past at least 20 years since the China shock, but more like the past 30, [we’ve had] these massive distributional problems. The coasts have done great, but the middle of the country has seen quality of life [declines], life expectancy decline, [and] they don’t think their children are going to do better than they are. A lot of people don’t care. But President Trump cares.”
