A message from Council Leader, Councillor Neghat Khan
I was delighted this week to see Homes England announced as buyers of the Broad Marsh site.
It’s such an important piece of land in the centre of Nottingham and I’m excited now to see it finally being redeveloped. I have confidence in Homes England and the work they’ve already delivered across the country.
We know that people have wanted to see progress here for a long time and we understand that it has been a frustration for some that this hasn’t happened.
The City Council has carried out a huge amount of work since the site was handed back to us suddenly during the Covid pandemic, and the deal we’ve agreed with Homes England means that we will continue to be involved in its development over the coming months and years.
Once complete with 1,000 new homes, significant office and retail space, and the creation of around 2,000 jobs for local people, it will be an asset that we can all be really proud of.

On Thursday this week I met up with Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer and Deputy Prime Minister, Angela Rayner during their visit to the East Midlands.
I and colleagues at the Council have been working very closely with partners across the East Midlands to maximise inward investment into the region. It was therefore great to see the Prime Minister join me in championing the role local councils can play in promoting the economic growth.

War Horse
War Horse to Nottingham at the Royal Concert Hall in May
The National Theatre’s acclaimed production and global phenomenon, War Horse, returns to Nottingham at the Royal Concert Hall in May. An unforgettable theatrical experience which takes audiences on an extraordinary journey from the fields of rural Devon to the trenches of First World War France.
Based on the beloved novel by Michael Morpurgo, this powerfully moving and imaginative drama, filled with stirring music and songs, is a show of phenomenal inventiveness. At its heart are astonishing life-sized horses by South Africa’s Handspring Puppet Company, who bring breathing, galloping, charging horses to thrilling life on stage.

Stewarts of Trent Bridge are delivering greener coffee and cakes thanks to a grant from Nottingham City Council
Stewarts of Trent Bridge are a local coffee roaster based in Sneinton who sell coffee, run workshops and run three Blend cafes. Now, they’re making their local delivery and collection services greener and cleaner thanks to our Workplace Travel Service [ [link removed] ].
After successfully applying for and receiving a grant totalling almost £5,000, Stewarts were able to invest in two e-bikes, including a cargo e-bike to use for local deliveries, as well as two EV charging points.
Local businesses, public/voluntary sector organisations and faith groups are encouraged to apply, with up to £25,000 up for grabs per application to help improve workplace travel options by introducing eCargo bikes, cycle shelters, showers for cyclists and electric vehicle charging points. If the application is successful businesses get 75% of the net costs. Public, voluntary sector, and charity groups can apply for 100% funded grants.
