Last night I went on The Rachel Maddow Show to tell the country what’s really happening in Maine right now — and why we all need to be paying attention.

Donald Trump is carrying out a vindictive, illegal act of retribution against the state of Maine. Why? Because our Governor, Janet Mills, had the courage to stand up to him.

Trump and his cronies have been withholding USDA funding that helps feed school children, shutting down Social Security services that support newborns, grieving families, and seniors, and lashing out at coastal communities and fishermen struggling from rising seas and severe storms.

And for what? Because the Governor told him no. Because she followed the law. Because she didn’t bow to a man who believes he is the law.

A Trump official even called our Governor a “petulant child.” But let’s be honest: it’s Trump who’s throwing a tantrum — and trying to make Maine families pay the price.
