Take Action: Champion and safeguard the federal health efforts to combat addiction

action alert may

Dear Friend,

Research demonstrates that addiction is a health issue, requiring a public health response. However, recent actions by the federal government have focused only on addressing fentanyl trafficking, while dismantling the structures and supports needed to effectively address the substance use crisis.

In recent weeks, the administration and Congress have:

  • Announced a restructuring of the federal health department, weakening the mental health and substance use agency by folding it in with other agencies
  • Cut thousands of federal workers responsible for mental health and addiction research, regulation, and services
  • Cancelled billions of dollars in grants essential to mental health and addiction services and research
  • Pushed forward with plans to cut Medicaid, which is the largest payor of substance use services

These actions will harm people with addiction and their families.

Send a letter to federal officials urging them to champion and safeguard the federal health efforts to combat addiction.
