Dear John,
MAGA’s obsession with Greenland is just another chapter in its long history of imperial ambition, disguised as security concerns, but driven by a hunger for dominance.
Vice President Vance’s remarks in Greenland were nothing short of a colonial sales pitch, attempting to convince an independent people that their future should be dictated by Washington rather than by their own will. We have seen this move in the MAGA playbook used multiple times since Trump's 2nd term began: exploit a region’s vulnerabilities, undermine its current leadership, and justify intervention under the guise of national security.
Greenland’s struggle isn’t about choosing between Denmark and the United States—it’s about whether it can carve out a future as a truly sovereign nation. If Greenland wants independence, the world should rally behind that, not let the U.S. swoop in to claim their land as a strategic asset.
Trump's blunt declaration that "We need Greenland" makes clear that this has nothing to do with the well-being of the Greenlandic people. It’s about control. It’s about military expansion. It’s about ensuring the U.S. dictates the fate of yet another land it has no rightful claim over.
Greenlanders have already made their stance clear: they don’t want to be pawns in America’s geopolitical games. Protests have erupted against U.S. meddling, with people marching under banners that read “Yankees, Go Home.” But MAGA’s imperialist ambitions don’t stop just because people resist. They spin a false narrative of rescue, framing their interference as benevolence while stripping nations of their right to self-determination.
History has shown what happens when the U.S. seizes control of foreign lands under the promise of security, just ask Puerto Rico, Guam, or the countless nations subjected to American military presence.
Greenland doesn’t need to be another victim of America's empire-building. If the people of Greenland seek a future free from Denmark’s rule, they deserve the full support of the international community in forging their own path, not to be strong-armed into becoming America’s next outpost.
In Solidarity,
