Dear John,
Wow, what an intense time. We hope you are doing well! We know that there is a lot happening right now, from the US to the Middle East, and closer to home in Ukraine.
It can seem overwhelming. But we are in this together. We know that wherever people’s rights are threatened, they rise up to claim them. From students in Serbia, to LGBTQI people protesting Orbán banning pride, we continue to support people protesting for their rights all over Europe. We will keep fighting for a greener, more feminist Europe to become a reality ✊

We demand the release of Ekrem İmamoğlu
We strongly condemn the arrest of Istanbul mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu and call for his immediate release.
İmamoğlu has led Turkey's biggest city since 2019 and won re-election last year.
He is one of Turkey's most popular politicians. His arrest is politically motivated tactic to try and silence President Erdoğan's biggest rival.
We expect European leaders to take concrete and immediate measures in support of democracy in Turkey.
Meanwhile, protesters in Turkey are standing up against corruption & water cannons. They are demanding an end to arbitrary one-man rule, and a return to rule of law and democracy. Like in Serbia, the protests have been led by students who has been a powerful voice of whole nation.
✊ We stand by the people of Turkey and their right to freely elect their leaders.
Hungary's attack on LGBTQI+ rights and international law
For almost 30 years, Hungary’s LGBTQI+ community has been marching in the streets together with their allies.
🫶 Pride is a powerful occasion to feel included and welcomed in a community.
📣 Pride is a celebration and a protest.
😡 This year, Viktor Orbán’s far right government wants to change that. He has banned Pride, in another cowardly attempt to intimidate minorities.
But we will not tolerate this. A Delegation from the EuropeanGreens willl go to Budapest and join Pride!
We urge all European leaders to send a clear message to Viktor Orbán:
🇪🇺 Europe is – and will remain - diverse and free

Viktor Orbán announced this week that Hungarian government will withdraw from the International Criminal Court (ICC), showing complete disregard for international justice.
This was announced during a visit from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to Hungary, despite an outstanding arrest warrant against him from the International Criminal Court (ICC). The European Green Party is calling for Prime Minister Netanyahu to be arrested and face trial at the Hague criminal court.

Ciarán Cuffe’s visit in Denmark
Our co-chair, Ciarán Cuffe, and our Committee member, Rasmus Nordqvist, visited our member party in Denmark, (Green Left) SF and took part in their Congress. It’s very inspiring to see our friends from SF being a leading force in the Danish opposition after they came first in the last year’s EU elections.
Vula Tsetsi’s mission to Croatia
Vula Tsetsi, our co-chair, visited our member party in Croatia, Možemo. We are very happy to see Možemo being a lead voice for affordable housing, environmental protection as well as dignified working conditions in Croatia.
Vula also joined our friends from FYEG in their Social Justice Lab and took part in important discussion on redefining social justice to become more inclusive.

The Green European Foundation has released two new publications advancing just and sustainable policies in Europe. The first, a policy brief titled “Gender at the Heart of the EU Energy Transition ([link removed] ) ”, delves into the transition’s potential to break with gender inequalities rooted in fossil fuel-based systems. Drawing on examples from France, the brief highlights how gender mainstreaming and active participation of all genders across energy demand, supply and decision-making are crucial. It argues that that EU policymakers must – and can – lead the way. The second publication, “A European Wellbeing Economy: Avenues for political action ([link removed] ) ”, looks at the Wellbeing agenda as a strategic response to the need for long-term resilience and security. This policy report sets out practical steps towards a European wellbeing economy, offering EU-level reflections, solutions, and recommendations across six thematic clusters.
