On June 1, Rep. Ayanna Pressley introduced into Congress “ A Resolution to Condemn Police Brutality, Racial Profiling, and the Use of Excessive Force. ”

The resolution comes after the murder of George Floyd by police officers in Minneapolis, Breonna Taylor by police in Louisville, and the countless black lives robbed by police violence.

It’s been 5 days since the resolution was introduced and my opponent, Rep. Tom O’Halleran, still hasn’t cosponsored it.

This resolution is incredibly important. It will set Congressional intent to pass sweeping reforms to address the systemic racial injustices deeply embedded in our country.

Yet my opponent is missing in action. Even in his statement about the murder of George Floyd, he failed to say “police brutality.” The best he could muster was, “we need to improve our understanding of racism.”

How can we achieve justice if representatives in Congress like him won’t acknowledge the severity of this problem?

Inaction from people in power like O’Halleran has gotten us where we are. Instead of fighting for true justice, he upholds a system that allows white police officers to murder black people with no accountability.

Inaction isn’t acceptable. To save lives, Congress must take bold action now.

I fully support Rep. Pressley’s resolution and when I’m in Congress, I will fight every single day to dismantle systemic racism and racial injustice in America.

I challenge my opponent to do the same.
