Mum says Baby Bonding course helped her to feel confident again
Abbie Marriott had just become a first-time mum to daughter Ada, who arrived into the world a month early, and joining one of the free Baby Bonding courses through our Family Hubs offer built up her confidence and an important support network.
A year on, she says attending the group has also helped Ada to become the sociable little girl she is today.
"I moved to the area from Stoke-on-Trent six years ago, so don't have family nearby to lean on," she said. "The group gave me a reason to push myself out of my comfort zone."

The fund is designed to support vulnerable households in most need and will supplement the council’s wider ongoing work to support residents at risk from the cost of living and address deep-rooted poverty in our communities. The total package of support is worth over £4.2m and lasts for 12 months beginning 1 April 2025. Payments will be available to: • Help prevent holiday hunger, by giving children and young people eligible for free school meals supermarket vouchers over the school holidays • Fund crisis support is for those unable to heat their home or afford essential supplies • Support pensioners to help them keep warm in the winter • The Oldham Food Bank to help sock their shelves • Charities, community groups and faith organisations to help them provide warm clothes and essentials to people who use their services. Families who receive free school meals and are eligible for pupil premium can access support during May half term (£15), Summer holidays (£60) and Christmas (£60). This will be delivered via schools with further communication as each holiday approaches.

Did you know you can now wear Failsworth on your feet?
The ‘Failsworth’ trainers are ready to hit the streets as part of global sportswear brand adidas' SPZL range.
Failsworth West Independent Cllr Sandra Ball played a key role in making this happen, securing legal permission for adidas to use the ‘Failsworth’ name.
She said: "We’re delighted that adidas has chosen to highlight Failsworth in their latest SPZL release. This project not only celebrates our town’s history but also brings a real sense of pride to the borough of Oldham. It shows what can be achieved when local people and big brands work together."
Councillor Arooj Shah, Leader of Oldham Council, said: "It’s fantastic to see Failsworth recognised in this way by adidas. Our borough has a rich history and a strong sense of community and this collaboration is a great example of how brands can celebrate local heritage. I’m sure residents will be proud to see Failsworth represented on such a big stage."
