Right now, Republicans in Congress are gearing up to potentially strip the right to vote away from tens of millions of people.

The misleadingly named Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, fast-tracked by far-right House leadership, is an all-out assault on our voter registration infrastructure and voters’ rights. This bill would:

• End online and mail-in voter registration as we know it;
• Throw even more roadblocks in the way of non-partisan voter registration efforts;
• And worst of all, require voters trying to register or update their registration to prove their citizenship in person with a passport or birth certificate.

At minimum, 21.3 million voters currently don’t have any proof of citizenship on hand and would effectively be disenfranchised if this bill passes.

But hundreds of millions more are also under threat: 69 million married women (the vast majority) don’t have a valid birth certificate because they’ve taken their spouse’s last name. And 146 million people don’t have a passport – including 54% of Pennsylvanians.

The GOP is scapegoating immigrants and people of color as usual, claiming that this bill will stop fictional “voter fraud” by non-citizens. But we know why they’re really doing this: when the multi-racial working class shows up to vote, billionaires and Republicans lose.

Every American citizen is entitled to vote, and that’s exactly what Republicans and oligarchs can’t stand.

Their money can’t beat our people power unless they take our rights away. Join us in speaking out collectively against this far-right attempt to make voting harder or impossible for tens of millions of people.
