Hey EnviroVoter,

There's one climate champion who deserves a special shout-out today: Senator Sasha Renée Pérez.

Senator Pérez is in her first California Senate term, and she's already making huge waves as a climate champion. We were proud to endorse her in last year's election, and we're proud to stand with her now as she fights for her community through bold action. Her vote yesterday to support the Polluters Pay Climate Superfund Act took us closer to our goal of making polluters pay for climate impacts so that her constituents don’t have to—creating an affordable, sustainable future for all of us.

Will you stand in solidarity with Senator Pérez by signing our petition to support the groundbreaking Polluters Pay Climate Superfund Act? [link removed]

We can't thank you enough for supporting this legislation, Senator Pérez, and we can't wait to uplift this bill as it moves forward in the legislative process.

Team, you made it happen.

This afternoon, the California Senate Environmental Quality Committee officially passed our sponsored bill, the Polluters Pay Climate Superfund Act (SB 684).

Thank you to each legislator who voted YES on this landmark bill: Chair Catherine Blakespear and Senators Lena Gonzalez, Caroline Menjivar, Steve Padilla, and Sasha Renée Pérez. These leaders stood up to Big Oil's attempts to influence the vote today—protecting California's economy, environment, and people.

A big thank you to our co-sponsors on this bill, the Center for Biological Diversity and the Campaign for a Safe and Healthy California.

And thank you, EnviroVoter. Over the last few months, you and other members of our community got 1,617 petition signatures and sent 1,087 emails to state Senators in support of this bill—and clearly, they listened.

Passing the Senate Environmental Quality Committee puts us one big step closer to making polluters pay for the cost of the climate crisis they created and then perpetuated by willfully misleading the public about the dangers of climate change.

We couldn't be happier about this win, but there's still a lot of work to do. Follow EnviroVoters on social media to stay up-to-date on bill progress and learn ways to support progressive climate action.

It's not fair that a tiny number of the world's largest corporations are raking in immense profits while the climate crisis they created drives up our cost of living. With the affordability crisis coming to a head in California, it's clear that something needs to be done to protect our communities from the cost of the climate crisis.

Through the Polluters Pay Superfund Act, we intend to right that wrong—and today, at the start of Earth Month, we got one big step closer to our goal. Let's leverage this success into an unstoppable wave of climate progress.

The next step in this bill's journey is the Senate Judiciary Committee, and we'll need all the help we can get to make sure this bill passes. Will you add us on social media to follow this bill's progress through the California Senate?

So glad we started Earth Month off with this major legislative win, and we can't wait to keep you posted on more successes, bill progress, and ways that you can help as we move forward.

Thanks,
Fatima Iqbal-Zubair
