Email from Rep. Gonzales Republican Congressional Hispanic Conference In February, I was elected as Chairman of the Congressional Hispanic Conference. Our members are battle-tested common-sense legislators—we are the majority makers who sit on the most powerful committees in Congress. Recently, we shared our priorities for the 119th Congress during a press conference. Click here to hear what members of the Congressional Hispanic Conference are working on in Congress. Medicaid Matters Today, I hosted a follow-up meeting with over 40 federal, state, and local healthcare leaders and organizations to hear their concerns and share what I’m working on in Congress to protect Medicaid. I trust the experts—cuts to critical healthcare programs like Medicaid would rip the rug out from under millions of Americans. Four years of failed border policies led to an overwhelming immigration crisis that caused hundreds of thousands of unaccompanied minors to go missing. There is nothing humane about putting the most vulnerable among us in danger. It’s time for Congress to work with the administration to find these innocent kids. Recently, I introduced the Big Bend National Park Boundary Adjustment Act in the U.S. House of Representatives. This legislation would greatly improve the National Park Service’s ability to preserve and protect critical habitats, history, and geology at Big Bend. U.S. Senators John Cornyn (R-Texas) and Ben Ray Lujan (D-N.M.) introduced the Big Bend National Park Boundary Adjustment Act in the U.S. Senate. I look forward to working alongside them to move this important legislation for Big Bend through Congress. Follow @RepTonyGonzales on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
