National Donate Life Month Flag Raising

To celebrate National Donate Life Month, I joined Montgomery County Coroner Dr. Janine Darby and many colleagues to raise a flag in honor of individuals who made organ, tissue, and eye donations, saving countless lives in the process. It’s important we continue to spread awareness about this cause and show our appreciation to individuals who have given the gift of life.

How Does Rainfall Impact the Perkiomen Creek?

Earlier this week we experienced a rainstorm with high winds and major lightning displays, that dropped less than 1 inch of actual rain on the Perkiomen Watershed. But the gage height at Graterford, PA rose 5 feet. The region has been experiencing drought conditions since last fall with concerns for the groundwater supplies that feed all our wells. The gage illustrates that we are not capturing a large part of the rain when it falls. Impervious surfaces and lack of stormwater controls allows it to flow downstream and on to the sea. We need to find ways to capture more stormwater and infiltrate it into the ground. This reduces the likelihood of flooding and helps maintain groundwater supplies.

To learn more, go to https://www.perkiomenwatershed.org/perkiomen-flood-study. It will take all of us to help stem the tide of flooding in our communities!
