As a quick reminder, Trump and members of Congress are targeting sanctuary cities, pushing policies to strip funding from those that do not cooperate with Trump’s mass deportation agenda. These cuts would leave people without access to critical programs, like school lunches, emergency Medicaid, and food assistance. Despite what Trump and Republicans in Congress are saying — sanctuary policies make our communities safer, healthier, and more prosperous. Studies show no link between sanctuary policies and crime. Actually, cities with these policies see lower crime rates, higher incomes, and better job opportunities. As politicians continue to pursue anti-immigrant policies, we need more mayors to follow Mayor Wu’s lead and take a stand. Their voices are critical in this uncertain time.
