John,
Our genetic data is the most intimate personal information we possess.
Now, with 23andMe facing bankruptcy, the sensitive genetic information of millions could be sold to companies without our knowledge or consent. Once again, companies are treating our most personal data as a product to be sold, rather than a trust to be protected.
Black communities, already more heavily surveilled and targeted for data misuse, face even greater risks to our personal and family privacy. Companies and healthcare providers could purchase this information and use our genetic data to deepen existing biases — affecting how algorithms determine hiring decisions, set insurance rates, provide medical care, or even influence law enforcement actions.

That's why we're inviting you to sign our petition demanding 23andme: (1) Proactively notify ALL consumers about their financial situation; (2) Create an expedited process for consumers to delete their data; (3) Commit to never selling, transferring, or otherwise monetizing data; and (4) Disclose to customers data retention and deletion practices.
23andMe has made billions by collecting our most intimate biological information. They have a moral and ethical responsibility to protect that data and respect our privacy rights.
John, we need you in this fight. Sign on to our petition and demand that 23andMe protect our privacy.
