Right-wing extremists are rabidly attacking judges who dare to block Donald Trump’s unconstitutional agenda, labeling them “radical leftists” for simply upholding the law. It’s getting out of hand:
Multiple Republicans in Congress have introduced impeachment resolutions and held sham committee hearings targeting judges who’ve ruled against Trump, while House Speaker Mike Johnson has suggested potentially defunding, restructuring, or eliminating U.S. federal courts. He went as far as saying, “We can eliminate an entire district court.”
Even Chief Justice John Roberts is speaking out against these extreme threats — ironic since he voted to give Trump immunity for his January 6th coup attempt in Trump v. United States. Right-wing Senator Ron Johnson has since demanded Justice Roberts “rein in activist judges,” telling the judicial branch how to do its job.
Trump doesn’t want co-equal branches of government. He wants a rubber-stamp judiciary, loyal only to him. And his MAGA followers in Congress are doing his bidding by threatening independent judges who fulfill their oaths to uphold the Constitution.
For now, Republicans don’t have enough votes to make these threats a reality. But we can be sure that oligarchs on the right like billionaire Elon Musk will spend whatever it takes to elect more far-right extremists who will help Trump stack the courts and destroy the separation of powers.
