As usual, the New York State Budget is late. Which means we have another window to PUSH AS HARD AS WE CAN to pass the NY HEAT Act in the budget!

Currently, the Assembly is the obstacle to NY HEAT. So here's what you can do:

If your Assemblymember is a Democrat, who is a bill sponsor use this call script (feel free to personalize):

"Hello, I’m [name] and I live in [municipality]. I'm a constituent of Assemblymember NAME and I’m calling to thank them for being a co-sponsor of the NY HEAT Act, A.4870A (Simon) and to ask that they push for its passage in the budget. My utility bills keep going up and I don't want to keep paying more for gas pipes that we don't need."

If your member is a Democrat who is not a sponsor (feel free to personalize):

"Hello, I’m [name] and I live in [municipality]. I'm a constituent of Assemblymember NAME and I’m calling to ask that they support the passage of the NY HEAT Act, A.4870A (Simon) in the budget. My utility bills keep going up and I don't want to keep paying more for gas pipes that we don't need. Can I count on Assemblymember [name] to support NY HEAT in the budget?"

If your member is a Republican, call Speaker Heastie:

"Hello, I’m [name] and I live in [municipality]. I'm calling to ask Speaker Heastie to put the NY HEAT Act, A.4870A (Simon) in the budget. My utility bills keep going up and I don't want to keep paying more for gas pipes that we don't need. Can I count on the Speaker to support NY HEAT in the budget?"

New Yorkers for Clean Power hosts our very own Executive Director, Jessica Azulay and Juan-Pablo Velez, Executive Director of Switchbox to present on their new report entitled: "Targeted Electrification in New York State An Alternative to Leak-Prone Pipeline Replacement."

The report compares the cost of replacing aging gas distribution pipes to the cost of fully electrifying the buildings served by those gas pipes. The report finds that targeted electrification could save ratepayers billions of dollars even when the full cost of electrification is taken into account.

This is a great way to learn more about what the NY HEAT Act can do, and give you the info you need to build even more support!
