Setbacks in life are inevitable, but giving up is unforgivable. And the measure of us as Americans is not whether we get knocked down, but how quickly we get back up.

Well, it’s time to get back up!

As tough as things seem, though, I also know this: The America of our dreams is always closer than we think.

But it will take all of us to step up in these moments when it feels so dark. What do you say? Will you chip in to the DNC to begin rebuilding today?

After 50 years of public service, I still believe in the idea for which this nation stands — a nation where the strength of our institutions and the character of our people still matter and must endure.
