The Amazon is at a tipping point. Human impacts—from logging to mining to drilling to ranching to farming—have now destroyed or degraded over one-third of the world’s most magnificent rainforest.
If this continues, the ecosystem will soon tip from lush, green forest to dry, brown savannah. A vast number of species will be lost. The vital capacity of the Amazon to absorb carbon will be gone. Our planet will be a very different place.
We still have time.
