Dear Friend,
Later today, weβre conducting our next critical webinar in the fight against animal cruelty. This time, our focus is on staged animal-fighting. Roosters bred just to be thrown into pits and cajoled into fighting to the death. Dogs trained, tortured to be made mean, and thrust into lethal confrontations with other dogs.
All around the fights, drugs are sold, traded, and used. Illegal gambling. Criminal assaults and, as happens at many cockfights, cold-blooded murder.
Canβt attend today? Register anyway and weβll send you a link later this week to the recorded version. [[link removed]]
It was like a punch to the gut last week when we learned that former NFL player LeShon Johnson was arrested AGAIN for dogfighting.
Johnson, who pleaded guilty in 2005 to the crime of dog fighting, is accused of breeding, training, and selling dogs for illegal fights through his operation. The 190 pit bull-type dogs seized from his properties in Broken Arrow and Haskell represent the largest number ever taken from a single individual in a federal dog fighting case.
We need tougher measures. Clearly, the current ones donβt persuade people like LeShon Johnson and so many others from getting more roosters and dogs and sending them to their death.
Thatβs where you and I come in. We need your help to pass the Animal Cruelty Enforcement Act, legislation that would add more firepower to existing but insufficient laws against animal fighting. The ACE Act would create a dedicated Animal Cruelty Crimes section at the Department of Justice, helping ensure that federal laws protecting animals are enforced and that the LeShon Johnsons of the word cannot continue their reign of terror.
Join us for a free, eye-opening webinar where weβll break down:
β
Why the ACE Act is critical for protecting animals and people
β
The alarming connection between animal cruelty and violent crime
β
How you can play a role in advancing this essential legislation
