InSight Crime has been collecting and analyzing homicide rates in Latin America and the Caribbean for the past 10 years. In this event, we will explore how organized crime has impacted homicide trends in each country and provide insights into our methodology for tracking murder rates.

------------------------------------------------------------

The Caribbean was the only subregion that saw an increase in its average homicide rate over the past decade, while Central and South America registered decreases.

In Central America, El Salvador saw the biggest drop in the region, but changes in its methodology for measuring murders raise questions about the reliability of data. Honduras also registered a drop of nearly 60% in its homicide rate, yet it still holds the highest level in the region.

Ecuador was the country with the biggest increase in its average homicide rate, with a change of over 500% due to various factors, including its increasing relevance as a drug trafficking hub._
